Starting September 5th, 2026 to January 31, 2027, I am going into the exhibit to paint the wall red. Without any warning or heads up, I walk in to the gallery, get my 2 inch chip brush, dip into “forbidden red” and paint the walls.
To what extent must I exaust and sacrifice my body to be seen, recognized, and respected by institutions. Must I need to physically interject myself in these spaces to get any actions done? Even when I am not present, the marks on the wall reflect my body’s movements.
The red that once was painted in my room to calm me down is reinterpreted as an almost violent act. The bright red deeping to a rich red, reminisent of blood smeared on a wall. You won’t hide me or wash me away no matter how hard you try.
