2026
This painting was started at the end of 2023. Rather than a typical family portrait, I asked everyone in my family what their favorite flower was and painted them as their favorite flowers. It took me nearly 3 years to complete as during these years my family dynamics changed many times, making it difficult to continue painting. On an emotional level, this was one of my most challenging pieces, I had to unpack a lot of familial trauma to get it completed.
I added my black cat who passed away (RIP Chanel imy), as well as my goldfish Rocky whom I burried at Joshua Tree (hence him under a Joshua Tree). The rocks are from a performance I did in December of 2025. The perfrormance consists of me laying in a field with my old bedframe. I found rocks along the santa ana river trail and used them in leui of pillows, which eventually became tombstone markers.
The composition is from an Hermes scarf design that I absolutely adore. I made the painting with the intention of eventually printing onto silk.
